About this position:
As part of our Finaling Department, the Paint/Composite Artist is responsible for delivering the final shots after stereo conversion. Working with a team, including a lead artist and supervisors, the Paint/Compositing Artist is responsible for compositing and paint tasks including:
 
  • Clean plate creation, clean-up work, and set extensions in stereo
  • Complex and dynamic paint clean-up - including character, dust, dirt, wire, seam and rig removal
  • Tracking (2D & 3D) and matchmoving
  • Integrating CG elements into stereo shots
  • Color correction and grain matching
  • Performing matte extractions - including rotoscoping, keying, tracking or a combination of methods
  • Ability to work tight deadlines and hours required for production
  • Taking direction/critiques, interpreting notes and learning/applying new skills are key parts of everyday life in our studio
Requirements & Preferences:
  • Compositing experience/knowledge and reel demonstrating skill
  • A strong understanding of 3-dimensional space
  • Knowledge and Experience with software packages such as Nuke (required), Photoshop, Mocha, Silhouette and After Effects a plus
  • Excellent Artistic Ability/Aptitude

Production Coordinator

About this position:

The Production Coordinator is responsible for the assignment and tracking of tasks for assigned area of responsibility. Facilitates the movement of shots between teams, coordinates daily reviews, and communicates status updates to ensure the delivery of shots on schedule. Provides administrative support to the production management team and supervisors. 

Responsibilities include:

• Under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, tracks progress of tasks for assigned artists or sequences in the production tracking system.
• Maintains production tracking system with revisions, omits, and shot length changes; notifies the affected crew as needed.
• Partners with other production personnel to ensure shots are scheduled and delivered in a timely manner.
• Follows up with Artist Leads on a daily basis to ensure task deliveries remain on schedule; communicates any schedule changes to appropriate Artist Leads, Supervisors and Production team as needed.
• Coordinates all client deliveries (outgoing and incoming), both physical deliveries and digital deliveries, with I/O Coordinator and maintains log of all deliveries.
• Responsible for multiple dailies sessions each day, as well as client reviews.
• Taking clear and accurate notes in all dailies and review sessions, and disseminating notes to all necessary parties and within production software.
• Generates and maintains production reports; including nightly production updates for assigned projects.
• Generally providing overall production support to the production management team.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field preferred.
• 2-4 years proven production experience.
• Demonstrable experience in highly technical, dynamic departments is a must.
• Experience with heavy schedule management in a very time sensitive atmosphere.
• Must be diligent, resourceful, meticulous and able to thrive under pressure.
• Thorough understanding of CG/VFX production pipelines, software packages and post-production is essential.
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail coupled with exceptional people skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
• Strong project management skills and a sensitivity towards deadline related deliveries.
• Must be able to handle multiple changing priorities in a dynamic environment and understand how this impacts departmental schedules. 
• Able to communicate effectively across multiple teams with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills are required; with particular emphasis on Production Tracking Software and Asset Management, Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Office, and standard PC applications. 
• Knowledge of Nuke is very helpful
• Knowledge and understanding of stereoscopic production and 2D/3D conversion a plus.

Overview:

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare internal reviews and take notes
  • In conjunction with Stereographer and editorial, prepare external Client review timelines
  • Attend Client reviews and take notes
  • receive editorial assets from client, and internally distribute this content for your assigned project
  • Work with Stereographer or Supervisor after Client review to confirm and clarify notes, and prepare review results for publishing
  • Ensure internal shot tracking database is up-to-date
  • Maintain any client-specific database needs
  • Regular reporting on progress to Production Supervisor and Producer as needed
  • Transfer assets across Stereo D facilities to ensure reviews are properly created, and 3D conforms are up to date
  • Communicate with department teams, and answer any shot-specific questions that may arise
  • Prepare delivery packages of stereo finals to client/DI facility
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years proven production experience in established VFX facility.

Overview:

Working with a team, including a lead artist and supervisors, the Depth Artist must creatively interpret and apply stereo concepts. We’re looking for individuals with a good “stereo eye,” a strong understanding of 3-dimensional space (be it from previous stereo experience or from an artistic background), a working knowledge of Nuke, and a healthy dose of team spirit. Taking direction/critiques, interpreting notes and learning/applying new skills are key parts of everyday life in our studio.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Consistently work on shots assigned utilizing depth maps in Nuke to create stereo.
  • Break down a shot creatively and technically including volume, specs and animation.
  • Remain up to speed on the pipeline and the latest tools.
  • Consistently adhere to proper protocol and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge Nuke and the pipeline of the studio.
  • Troubleshoot issues in shots.

As part of our Element QC Department, the Element QC Artist is responsible for receiving and reviewing all incoming assets, Nuke scripts, Compositing scene files, After Effects scripts, Maya Scenes files and various production elements/assets from the vendor. 
Working with a team, including a lead artist and supervisor, the ideal candidate will possess a good working knowledge with Nuke scripts; how to work with, and modify various Nuke scripts to conform to the production standard. Colour Compositor

The Colour Compositor will be responsible for creating highly detailed, photo realistic restoration of original historic footage. To accomplish this the colour compositor will perform one or more of the following tasks for each shot: create a reference keyframe in photoshop that will be used as a guide for the rest of the shot, utilize Nuke’s colour correction tools alongside a proprietary toolset to set up full image sequences for colourization, and use various lighting and integration techniques in Nuke to create the final shot.
We are looking for artists with a strong background in digital matte painting and/or advanced compositing techniques who have a passion for bringing historical footage to life.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Colour Supervisor and Leads to composite the numerous elements that complete a colourized shot.
  • Use photographic and historical reference material to ensure the creation of colour accurate, photo realistic final plates or composite that matches client expectations
  • Perform all tasks associated with the compositing process including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements, facial tracking and colour Grading.
  • Work in partnership with Roto department, compositors and other colour artists to ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard
  • Produce high quality shots with the ability to quickly address any notes given

Colour Supervisor

Do you have strong Photoshop and Nuke skills, a keen eye for colour and a passion for restoring old footage?  StereoD Toronto is pushing the boundaries of the restoration process and is looking for a Colour Supervisor to oversee the photorealistic colourization of historical footage. The Colour Supervisor will use various reference material to create highly detailed Photoshop key frames which will be used to set the look for an entire sequence.  They will manage a team of digital matte painters and compositors to produce final shots at exquisite quality.
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in digital matte painting and/or advanced compositing techniques with experience working closely with teams to deliver high quality material within tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Works closely with creatives, producers and artists to develop the look and feel of restored and colourized material.
  • Ability to communicate client feedback into actionable artistic direction
  • Implement and support the pipeline, including any software or hardware needs, required for superb colourization.
  • Create colourized keyframes in Photoshop which will be used to set the look for entire sequences
  • Ensuring the colourization team uses the best technical and creative approaches to meet show deadlines within budget and at the quality expected
  • Give feedback directly to artist and in dailies.

Requirements
  • +5 years experience working as a Lead or Supervisor in Animation or Visual Effects.
  • Highly proficient in using Photoshop to create photo realistic material.

  • Strong understanding of digital matte painting, texture painting and paint/roto work in both Nuke and Photoshop.
